Oil Portrait Paintings

Justin Cole is a painter who currently works and lives in Brooklyn, New York. Through his oil portrait paintings, Cole depicts a person’s emotions. “My work stems from the principle of what I think paintings should be: visually interesting, appealing, and beautiful for beauty’s sake.” Cole explains. “I combine the lifelike realism of classical paintings with the palette, composition, and emotional charge of an abstract painting“.

His main technique is oil paintings and his main theme is portraits. Cole tries to depict the feelings of the subject each time, just like Andrea Koporova’s Ghost Town. Koporova had suggested some time ago that “The majority of my work is done outside – in the exterior and only with the natural light where I try to capture the beauty and the feelings of a given moment by my own eye“. This is also evident by Cole’s work.

Justin Cole received his BFA from College for Creative Studies where he studied Illustration. Within his work Cole tries to illustrate his themes by using contemporary forms of art including abstract expressionism. Earlier this year, Cole had an exhibition of his work at Sébastien Bertrand, Geneva. In this article oil portrait paintings throughout Cole’s career are presented. The result is impressive. Enjoy.
