Retro Objects, Paintings

Christopher Stott is an artist originally from Saskatoon, Canada. His main technique is oil paintings and his main theme is Retro Objects. “I paint a wide variety of vintage and antique objects, including typewriters, cameras, books, clocks, bubble gum machines and telephones, among other common technology and appliances.” Stott explains. “As subjects, they have a built-in narrative, and they have history. And transforming them into paintings creates an intimate, slower viewing experience“.

As opposed to mixed media creative collage art, Stott uses straightforward compositions for his paintings. “I approach my work with naturalistic styling and a strong sense of minimalism and order.” he explains. As he suggests in his statement, Christopher breaks the retro objects into simple shapes and designs, which is indeed a key element. Towards the final stages of his work, Stott creates a near-photorealist aesthetic.
