George Byrne is a photographer originally from Australia. In his latest series, Synthetica, there are several ideas within the outcome, including topographic photography. Byrne uses his Pentax 67 camera to shoot these wonderful pictures. However, upon shooting the photograph the actual work starts. “This series is built around the idea of the photograph as the starting point of an image, not the finish point.” Byrne explains. “That means I’m approaching photography as if it were malleable like a painting. I’m constructing dreamscapes“.
Byrne examines between the classical topographic photography and the artificial elements of it. “I’m more curious about the process of making photos, rather than taking them, which happens through experimentation with various forms of manipulation and digital reconstruction.” he suggests. As opposed to the Ice Hut photography series, George uses also synthetic elements in his work.

George Byrne is a photographer who currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Originally, Byrne was from Sydney, Australia. He was born in 1976 and has a degree from Sydney College Of The Arts in 2001. Before settling to Los Angeles, Byrne has travelled a lot. Regarding photography, George says that “From the beginning, I was trying to use photography to capture abstract ideas, not just record the world“.
