Elise Ferguson is an artist who currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Print making art ideas emerge through her work. Ferguson was originally a sculptor, evolving later to a textural painter. Her work textural paintings made her well known. Ferguson paints the majority of her work by using pigmented plaster on paper or panels.


Elise shaped her path primarily by her family environment. More specifically, both of her parents were working in the wider area of art. “I grew up in a household where my mother was a women’s clothing designer and my stepfather was an architect” she explains. “I was influenced by color theory, design history and international traditions in geometric abstraction“.

Her work has extended from print making art ideas to other forms. “During the past two years, I have begun to expand the parameters of my work to include hand-printed textile installations, outdoor projects and sculptural works.” she explained in an interview. “Having long employed printmaking techniques in my paintings and frequently making reference to textiles and textile design, my linen installations bring together several of the themes in my work into a single piece.” explained more specifically


Ferguson holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Furthermore, she has an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her latest exhibition, The Narrows, took place this summer in Shrine gallery in New York. Likewise, Elise has got several awards including the Dieu Donne Paper Variables Artist and the Barton College Artist-in-Residence. In this article her overall work is presented.
