Maximize the Usable Space in Your Home

Most of us have a lot of things and many of us have a lot of hobbies and activities that we do which require a lot of space. Sadly, many of us also live in homes that are far smaller than ideal. This means we do not always have all of the room we need to accommodate our possessions and our busy lives. Check out this article to maximize your usable space. Even ideas on how to tidy up your home can create space.

Build storage into the stairs

Stairs are necessary if you live on more than one level, but beyond that, they take up a lot of space that could otherwise be better utilized. Thankfully, some bright spark had the idea of turning each step into a drawer that can be used for storage. If you follow suit, many of your storage problems will be solved once and for all.

Use dual-purpose furniture

Dual-purpose furniture like storage ottomans or beds that have storage under the mattress for clothing and sheets, and you will free up far more room and be able to store far more possessions with ease while probably needing much less furniture too.

Insulate the conservatory

Those of us who are lucky enough to have a conservatory are often not making enough of the space because to do so would be uncomfortable. Conservatories are often too hot or too cold to spend time in depending on the weather. Leka conservatory roof systems solve this problem by offering a much higher level of insulation which means we can utilize these useful extra rooms at any time of the year.

Use those nooks

Most of us have various nooks and recesses in the home that are being underused in some way. Try using them in your interior design by, for example, turning the book under the stairs into a study area by placing a desk and chair under there, or by installing vertical shelving units in that wall recess to store your books. There is almost always something you can do with those nooks and recesses it just takes a little imagination to work out what.

Build a platform bed

Platform beds aren’t just for kids. If you’re short on space, raising your bed so that you can fit in a vanity table, couch or whatever else you need is smart and will free up tons of additional floor space for your stuff and your hobbies which makes it all worthwhile.

Build storage over the doorway

Those spaces over the doorway are often not used at all because they are too small for hanging pictures, but they are also big enough to hold a shelf that you could display your books on or keep crockery safe on, for example, start using them and you’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes to you and your home. You’ll finally have a place for everything.

Most of us have more usable space than we think, even if we live in a tiny apartment, it’s just a matter of making the most of the space we have, and the above tips will help you to do just that.
