Boredom is a natural state of life, and it can strike at any time. When you’re at work, when you’re at home watching a movie, and when you’re stuck trying to sleep but can’t drift off. And if you’re a parent, you know just how easy it is for the kids to get bored nearly every day, like in a family dinner table!

But overall, it’s easy to fall into a routine that’s unfulfilling. Never is that more obvious than when you’ve got nothing to do on the weekend! Do you know how to play any instruments? Well, even if you do, why not head out to buy a new instrument you’ve never thought to pick up before? Even if it’s just a harmonica, give it a good go for a couple hours on Saturdays and Sundays!

See an Outdoor Show

Outdoor shows are a great experience when you’re sick of being indoors! You can get a beer, take a seat with a blanket to keep the breeze off, and spend a good couple hours being part of an interactive audience. So if you’re nearby, visit places like Bethel Woods Center for the Arts to take in the outdoor theater experience – it’s like a festival on a smaller scale, and it’s great for meeting new people through.

Host a Spontaneous BBQ

If it’s a nice day out, and you know a couple friends don’t have anything on, why not get the grill out and invite them over for a spontaneous BBQ? It’s always fun to throw some patties on the fire, get the drinks out, and eat out with those you love. Put some tunes on, make sure you’ve got some good sides on the table as well, and if things go well, why not turn this into a tradition?

Start a Reading List

Reading is one of the most accessible hobbies in the 21st century, and if you’re someone who already has an overflowing bookshelf, start a reading list and work your way through it. 50 or 100 books are a great goal to aim for, and it should take you at least a year to make real progress, so this is definitely a long term activity that’ll keep you from being bored for a while to come!
