Ways You Can Express Yourself Through Art
Expressing yourself, feelings and emotions have never been more important yet for some it can be a very difficult and daunting experience. It is important to remember however that there are many ways in which you can express yourself, you don’t just have to sit nursing a coffee and force the words out of your mouth. If you consider yourself to be creative or artistic in nature then why not use your artistic flair to help you express yourself. Still not sure? Here are some ways you can use your love of art to express yourself.
Drawings and doodles
Have you ever sat aimlessly with a pen in hand and found yourself doodling? Perhaps you were reprimanded in school for the drawings in your exercise book instead of the school work that should have filled the pages. If that sounds familiar then dedicate some time each day to doodling. It could be as you are waiting on a phone call, in between work tasks, or sitting quietly with your cup of tea. Drawing can be a great way to de-stress and practice mindfulness and what is more, it can be soothing and stimulating. Treat yourself to a dedicated sketchbook and set aside some time to draw each day.
Design and decorate fabric
If you want to showcase your art somewhere a little more visible than inside a sketchbook consider using fabrics such as clothing, cushion covers, pillows, or blankets. Invest in a piece of fabric and decorate it as you see fit. You could add stitching, patterns, or designs with needlework or you can use acrylic paint on fabric by way of paints and prints. When it comes to decorating and designing fabrics there are so many possibilities and options available you can let your creativity and imagination take over.
Fine art photography can be an incredibly cathartic and creative way to express yourself. By recording photos of life’s finest or most candid moments by way of still photography it can allow you to be creative and artful by the method of taking the photo and then the editing process that comes after. During the editing stages, you can play around with and manipulate the pictures you have taken to express the moods, thoughts, and feelings of a photo and or the photographer. You may also find that you have created some beautiful masterpieces to decorate your walls or fill a photo album with.
Take an art class
Perhaps you have always fancied dabbling in art be it painting, pottery, or sketching but you don’t really know where to start, if this sounds familiar then consider signing up for an art class. The great thing about art classes is you do not need any prior experience or knowledge and art is subjective. There is no right or wrong when it comes to art just what feels right to the artist. Art classes can help give guidance and direction but they are not there to judge or grade.
