Los Angeles Liquor Stores

Ben Hassett is a British photographer who currently lives and works in New York City. Although best known as a portrait photographer, in this series Ben tries to shoot a poetic portrait of Los Angeles. These Liquor Stores are placed throughout Los Angeles. Furthermore, these photographs look like paintings with their saturated colors, good compositions, and heavy textures.

Hassett is well known for his portrait photography. He has prestigious clients, including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and has created reputable advertising campaigns for brands such as Christian Dior and YSL. Moreover, he has photographed leading actresses like Marion Cotillard, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, Tilda Swinton and Jennifer Aniston.

Although an icon in portrait photography, still has a passion on other forms of photography as well. “I still have an enormous amount of enthusiasm for still photography”, Hassett explains. In addition, “One thing is the challenge of continually problem-solving, and the other is that photography keeps changing and that you have to keep up with it“.

Beer. Soda. Lotto. is the name of the exhibition regarding the Liquor Stores series. The exhibition will run until the 18th of December at David Hill Gallery, London. “Ben Hassett’s series is a study, a study into the history of photography, the history of how we look, the history of how we, collectively, let cities fall to ruin. They are also, simply, beautiful portraits of the color inherent in the American West.” the curator of the exhibition Carrie Scott suggests. This is Hassett’s first solo exhibition. The result is impressive. Enjoy.
