Beauty Remains, Garage Doors in Vilnius, Lithuania by Agne Gintalaite
Beauty Remains as Garage Doors
Agne Gintalaite is an artist born in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. As one wanders in a city, she definitely finds interesting things to explore. However, apart from finding appealing things from the city, it is also very important the way one perceives them. And Gintalaite found these beautiful Garage Doors, and wonderfully identified them as paintings. “This is what I saw in these doors — paintings, created by people, who had no idea that they were making art.” she explains. “They were also assisted by time, rust, rain and grass“.
Garage Doors had rust and grass besides them through time and rain; the beauty though was there. “By documenting these objects that are, most likely, about to disappear from Lithuanian society, I wished to communicate to the viewer the ambivalent, aesthetic, but also human significance of these garage doors“. Some doors may seem like Rothko’s paintings. In an interview stated that she sure recognized some Rothko look-alikes. Each garage door is doubtless unique.
Agne Gintalaite is a Lithuanian artist holding a BA in Art History and Theory from Vilnius Academy of Arts. Then, ten years later, she acquired a Psychology degree from Vilnius University; diverse, however also a continuity from art to psychology. The same applies by watching her worκ: Art director of prestigious magazines (Cosmopolitan, FHM), Lecturer in Fashion Photography and freelance artist in several disciplines (photographer, illustrator). This made her to understand art overall and perceive it holistically. “[…] art can appear from nowhere” she explains. The result is impressive. Enjoy.
