Ketelhuis, Boiler House, in Zaanstad, The Netherlands
Ketelhuis or Boiler House
Ketelhuis resides in Hembrugterrein, a cultural center housing several restaurants, museums and creative venues. It is less than 30 km from Amsterdam and there is a 24H transportation. The area was once a deserted factory that needed a full restoration. After a hard work, the place became available for the public in 2014. In fact, responsible for this renovation was the Studio Modijefsky.
“Ketelhuis is a place where every single area has been designed to complement the original building, yet to enhance the designated use of each one of the rooms.” the studio suggests. With collaboration with the client’s atelier, Studio Molen, the result is a perfect balance between the spatial design and the sculptural elements.
To point out, there are two distinct levels which divide the complex. The ground floor accommodates an office and a workshop. On the other hand, the first floor occupies a gallery an the home the client asked for.
Studio Modijefsky
The office commissioned for this renovation was the Studio Modijefsky. It was founded in 2009 and resides in the heart of Amsterdam. “We are an international team of architects and interior designers who provide a creative services for spatial interventions.” they explain. Having that in mind, the outcome of this refurbishment was excellent. Enjoy.
