Buying the Right Motorhome for You

Thinking of experiencing the ultimate freedom a motorhome can offer you? You won’t be disappointed. That feeling of being able to pick up and take your home with you as you explore the world is the best, but there are a few things you will want to consider before picking out your new wheels.

Motorhomes can bring great joy for you and your family, but they are a big investment, so you want to make sure you’ve done your research before you jump into anything. When you make all the right decisions and get the perfect motorhome, adventure is right around the corner, so check out this Guide: How to Buy a Motorhome That is Perfect for You.

Check You Have the Right License

It’s important to double check that your driving license will allow you to drive a motorhome. Licenses issued after January 1st only allow you to drive vehicles that weigh up to 3.5 tonnes without taking an additional test. If your license was issued before that date, then you can operate vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.

If your license was issued after Jan 1st 1997, then you’ll have to take an additional test to drive heavier vehicles. Even if you are entitled to drive heavier vehicles, it’s advisable to take a motorhome maneuvering course if it’s your first time driving a motorhome.

Think About Size

There are lots of different options when it comes to choosing the size of your motorhome, so make sure you choose the one that best fits your needs. You’ve got to consider where you’re going to keep your motorhome when you’re not using it as much as when you are using it.

It’s not a great thing to have a place earmarked for your motorhome only to realize it doesn’t fit in the space, so don’t get carried away with things!

Think about your requirements and choose the motorhome that suits your situation.

There Are Different Types of Motorhome

When you’re considering what you need from your motorhome, it’s also useful to remember there are different types of motorhome.

● Express deliveries
● Coachbuilt
● Overcab
● A – Class

These options all offer something slightly different and they can vary greatly in price, so choosing the right type of motorhome for your budget can make a big difference. Different types will come with different extras, so whether you’re looking for an all singing all dancing, ultimate motorhome, or just a basic vehicle to take you on holiday, you’ll be able to find the right one.

Make Sure Everything is in Order

If you’re buying second hand, then you’ll want to know you’re buying from a reliable source and that everything’s in working order. If need be, get the vehicle checked out by a mechanic you trust, and ensure you’re getting good value for money.

Motorhomes have a lot of working parts on them, so there are plenty of things that can go wrong. Make sure you’re not blindly jumping into buying your new motorhome and that you’ve checked it’s in good condition before you buy.
