Portraits by Amy Sherald
Amy Sherald is an American artist who currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland. She holds a BA in Painting from Clark-Atlanta University and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. Evidently, her work has been exhibited throughout the world. “[…] the amorphous personal space of my own existence within the context of black identity and my search for ways to clarify and ground it.” Sherald explains.
She was the first woman to win the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition grand prize with the “Miss Everything (Unsuppressed Deliverance)” portrait. In the video below she describes thoroughly the winning portrait and the model, named Crystal. Enjoy.
