Jean Smith is an artist born in Vancouver, Canada. Singer, novelist, lecturer, filmaker, and for this article, painter are some of her traits. “The thirty years’ worth of characters I’ve created in song lyrics, novels and paint intend to instill or arouse empathy.” Smith shares.
Her main technique, as a painter, is watercolour paint. She has produced numerous portraits, several being self-portraits. The series of the self-portraits started as old as 1973. Smith has being making portraits as young as 13 years old and the series was exhibited in 2000 at Olympia’s Ladyfest Art Show.
