Brian Calvin Raw Portraits
Brian Calvin was born in Visalia, CA and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Ηe has a bachelors form University of California at Berkeley and a MFA from School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Over the years he has developed a unique feel of painting that has characterised him. Bright faces, expressive characteristics, big eyes.
“The very act of painting combined with the act of looking creates a portal through which a lot can transpire,” Calvin has said. “So I paint each day, trying to remain open enough to let that connection happen.” and this is indeed true. As Anne Prentnieks suggested “Calvin takes a more existential approach to portraiture, treating the human face or body as a self- contained landscape, and in these new pictures he has both tightened and expanded his focus.”.
Unfortunately an exhibition called End of Messages‘ ended late last month at Le Consortium at Dijon, France. We are waiting for new things by Calvin. Enjoy.
