Song 64: Maria Callas – Je veux vivre dans le reve, Romeo et Juliette [Opera]
I was driving home earlier this week and the radio was tuned to a sound like an opera with a very familiar voice. While the song was progressing I recognised Callas, as her voice is indeed distinct. The radio producer explained about the song: the only one waltz of the the opera Romeo & Juliet.
This opera was composed by Charles Gounod by the works of William Shakespeare. It was first performed at Paris in 1867. Callas recorded “Je veux vivre dans le reve” under Georges Pretre in April 1961. And the song was exceptional! Enjoy.
