Song 63: Diana Ross and The Supremes – You Can’t Hurry Love

The song You Can’t Hurry Love was released in 1966 by the Supremes, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard by Motown Records. The Supremes were formed in the sixties in Detroit, Michigan becoming the most commercially successful of Motown’s groups and the most succesful vocal group in America, having twelve number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song was written by Holland–Dozier–Holland for Motown and topped in the United States. The song was also recorded by Phil Collins in the 1983 reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart. It expresses the wise older mother and the more naive daughter and how wise words etch in memory. Enjoy.

My mama said ‘you can’t hurry love
No you just have to wait’?
She said love don’t come easy
It’s a game of give and take
