Portraits by Kris Coolens
Kris Coolens was born in Belgium and works and lives in Ghent. He is currently dedicated on portraying faces and he does it nicely. “The collective evaporates and the residue is my only interest: the individual. The subjects in my paintings represent the objective reality of the individual in its aura of daily conflicts and possible complexes. Individuality doesn’t equal selfishness, it is solitary but doesn’t equal loneliness” he explains about his work. Individuality, loneliness, selfishness, solitary have different interpretations over different contexts. Coolens tried to depict individuality and solidarity through the faces of people he portrayed. Enjoy.
