The Poverty Line by Stefen Chow
The Poverty Line
What if someone lies in the poverty line and needs to acquire specific amount of food? What are the daily amounts of food with the available money in the poverty threshold? Stefen Chow, a photographer born in Malaysia, created the project The Poverty Line.

Apples. Dubai, UAE. September 2014. 11.08 Emirati Dirham (3.02 usd, 2.30 euros).
With this project, Chow tried to identify what poverty looks like in different countries. At the same time, he tried to investigate other things than poverty. More specifically, he assessed the socio-economic viewpoint of each country. Moreover, determined the reason why poverty was deteriorated in several countries.

Beef Steak. New York, USA. October 2011. 4.90 dollars (3.60 euros).
One one hand, he captured the available food with the available money for a day in the threshold of poverty for each country. On the other hand, Chow photographed the daily newspaper at the day of the photo-shoot, denoting also the current situation for each country. The project began in China in 2010 and has from then on has expanded to 24 countries across 6 continents. It has been exhibited in China, Malaysia and Georgia, and presented at TEDx.
