Pool Divers by Mark Sanders
Pool diving is by itself a very delicate and at the same time very aesthetic sport. In fact, the athlete needs to know perfectly gymnastics, but also she needs to know how to dance. Athletes have same characteristics with the dancers or gymnasts including strength, flexibility, kinaesthetic judgement and air awareness (via wikipedia). Some professional divers were originally gymnasts or dancers as both the sports have great similarities to diving.
Mark Sanders shot divers for the project named Turning point : a guide to flipping. The project was for kinfolk magazine. “Judges look for how little splash you make on entering, how tightly your legs are squeezed together, the arc of your arms and the straightness of your body. Don’t flip off safety, either: Remember to jump as far away from the edge as possible—whether it’s a cliff or a springboard” the magazine suggests. I am waiting for the next diving competition, 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia hoping diving will be broadcasted. The result is impressive. Enjoy.
