Virgins, a Photography Series by Ransom Ashley

Born in Shreveport, LA , Ransom Ashley is a photographer, actor, and cinematographer. He attended Parsons The New School for Design in New York City where he was concentrating on photography. He has shown work internationally and been included in shows at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and Masur Museum of Art, among others. He has also been featured in select publications such as Teen Vogue, Parallel Magazine, Ignant Magazine, Metal Magazine, and Dazed and Confused Magazine. Ashley is currently working on a collaboration with Italian artist and fashion designer Nicola Romagnoli and is set to appear alongside Oscar Winning Actress Holly Hunter in the upcoming southern drama Strange Weather.

Vibrant, yet at the same time melancholic, the series portrayes solitude and confinement. Apart form that, identifies feelings as the face in each photograph is exposed. “In my Virgins series, which was my first body of work, I poured a lot of the isolation I felt during my teenage years into it: the uncertainty, the finding of myself, the angst and sometimes contemplation with my own mortality.” Ransom describes about the series.
