19th Century Apartment in Eixample, Barcelona
Barcelona is famous – apart from food, artists and wild nightlife, for its unique floors. From Gaudi’s Park Guell to houses and shops all over the city, tiles distinguish Barcelona. Having that as basis, Built Architecture unfolded the 19th century apartment with a new twist. “The challenge is to find a balance between the existing and the new. Recover and revalue the features of the original apartment, while getting rid of any element that blots the vision and distresses the perception of space. The space must be wide and clear.” the architect suggested.
The old and the new co-exist in this apartment. The mosaic tiles and the ceilings were preserved providing the vintage side of the apartment. However, lighting, plumbing and furniture were fully replaced to create a new sense of the apartment. The result is impressive. Enjoy.
