Song 75: Sister Sledge – He’s the Greatest Dancer

Sister Sledge is an American group from Philadelphia, PA. They formed in 1971, the group was originally composed of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kathy and Kim Sledge. Later the became trio as Kathy left the group. ‘We Are Family’ was an album released in 1979 having wide successes. The songs “Lost in Music”, “Thinking of You” and “He’s the Greatest Dancer” was from this album.

It was while I was studying in London that I first listened to this song. Apart from the great rhythm the song reflects the interactions and the relationships of people as part of an area. Most of us have experienced this situation, at school, at the university, at the country house, even at the area we were growing up. Hot spots, hot individuals, mythicization of the situation. I have been there and I sigh for. Enjoy.

He wears the finest clothes, the best designers, heaven knows
Ooo, from his head down to his toes
Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci, he looks like a still
That man is dressed to kill
