Song 59: Ella Fitzgerald – The Way You Look Tonight
Ella Fitzgerald was one of the best jazz vocalists, having a range of three vocal octaves. She was in music industry for 60 years, recorded over 70 albums and sold 40 million copies. She was awarded with 13 Grammies and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George H. W. Bush.
The song “The Way You Look Tonight” was first appeared in the movie Swing Time performed by Fred Astaire. It acquired the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1936. The song was first introduced to me through the soundtrack of the movie Barney’s Version; a reflective movie with an awesome soundtrack. I revisited the soundtrack when my amplifier was repaired after numerous attempts. It was wise a wise night. I loved every bit of the music. Enjoy.
