The ‘Mod-Scene’, Similar To ‘Hipsters’, by Carlotta Cardana
Do you know the ‘mod scene‘? It was started in the late fifties and strengthened in the sixties. It started from the word ‘modernism’ identifying something popular, fashionable or modern. People favour this subculture were refined as far as fashion and music are concerned. Think of the ‘hipster’ movement; mod-scene has many similarities with hipsters mostly in fashion, being a predecessor of hipsters. Though mod people were more refined and dressed more stylishly, acted with more drama.
Carlotta Cardana, an Italian portrait and documentary photographer based in London, tried to capture the flair of mod scene. She photographed couples that belong to this scene currently. “While their style is what catches the eye at first, my interest in developing this project goes well beyond their appearance. The subculture and all of its elements — the fashion, the music, the scooters — only provide the framework for this project” she explains. Enjoy.
